A young girl is sent to the country for health reasons, where she meets an unlikely friend in the form of Marnie, a young girl with flowing blonde hair. As the friendship unravels it is possible that Marnie has closer ties to the protagonist than we might expect.
nudity | 0/10 No sex and nudity. A schoolgirl calls a man a perv which is a not a nice word and has sexual implications |
violence | 3/10 At a playground, a little boy is seen having tripped and cries. Anna suffers from asthma, hence coughing and collapsing earlier. Anna trips and falls down some stairs, but never gets hurt. Several people find Anna unconscious with some bruises. Nothing serious. Marnie throws a bed sheet over an old lady, and locks her in a room. Anna tells Marnie about her parents having died. Marnie tells Anna about how the twin maids loved to threaten her when she was a child, and how the nanny and the maids locked her up in a silo. She also tells Anna about how the nanny used to yank her arm and brushed her hair hard. Several people find Anna with high fever, in the middle of a rainy night. When an old lady tells Anna a sad story, there are multiple flashbacks. A man had died due to an illness. A girl and her mother quarrel. A girl and a boy had been killed in a car accident. Also, Anna gets to know that Marnie as an old woman had died several years ago. |
profanity | 1/10 Anna calls a girl "a fat pig". She later thinks of herself as being ugly, stupid, moody and unpleasant. Other mild language. |
alcohol | 2/10 In one of Anna's visions, a man can briefly be seen smoking in background. During a party scene, multiple people can be seen smoking and drinking. Later, Anna gets a glass wine, and Marnie calls her a "drunkard" later. In another scene in the same party, we see again people drinking and smoking. |
frightening | 5/10 There are several scenes in which Anna suffers from asthma. The scene in the silo is quite disturbing. Some of Marnie's flashbacks tend to have some dramatic parts. The scene when Anna thinks that she's ugly, stupid, moody and unpleasant is quite emotional. The ending sequence, beginning with an old lady telling Anna the truth about Marnie, is pretty emotional and very moving. |
