In the rigid thriller The Shallows, when Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on a separated shoreline, she ends up on the bolstering ground of an awesome white shark. In spite of the fact that she is stranded just 200 yards from shore, survival turns out to be a definitive test of wills, requiring the majority of Nancy's inventiveness, genius, and backbone.
nudity | No sex or nudity, but she is always in her bikini, and there are MANY close ups of her breasts and butt. |
violence | A dead whale with a large hole in its side is floating in the water. The initial shark attack is quick and the most we see is a lot of blood in the water. The protagonist attempts to climb on top of the dead whale to escape the shark. Her hands puncture existing bite marks of the whale and blood spills out. Later, we see the protagonist try and stitch up (albeit poorly) the wound. We realize the wound is deeper than first thought and a lot of blood pours out while she's trying to "stitch" up the wound. This scene is about two minutes long and ends because she can't endure any more pain. A man is severed in half (off screen). Later, we see his upper body on the beach, still alive, before he succumbs to his wounds. His lower body is also visible, but out of focus. A great white shark breaches the water, lifting a surfer off his surfboard and clamping down before dragging him underwater. No blood, very brief. Meant to shock the audience. Later, we see the surfer's dead body washed up on the beach. Again, no blood and very brief. |
profanity | One use of the F-word by the protagonist towards the end of the film. Another use of the F-word by a character in a video (from a camera). 2 uses of "Shit". |
alcohol | Little shown, although a man is drunk on the beach. He drops his empty bottle of Tequila in the sand. |
frightening | Anyone with a fear of sharks or the ocean, particularly being stranded at sea might have issues with this film and find it uncomfortable. |
