nudity | 1/10 There is a scene where Vicki and Julian kiss in the back of a carriage. A few other embraces between the two are shown. Nothing sexual. |
violence | Vicky is seen with some blood on her after she dances off a high balcony, falls on the railroad track, and is run over by a train. |
profanity | Moira Shearer makes one blasphemous exclamation close to the film's end. One use of "h**l" in reference to warfare. |
alcohol | A huge bottle of wine is seen at a party. Ivan is seen to be drunk at that same party. Some cigarette butts are seen in an ashtray and some people are seen smoking (Julian while he plays piano for Vicky in Lermontov's office). |
frightening | The scene where Vicki is hit by a train could be frightening to some viewers, although we don't see her being hit by the train - just the aftermath where there is some blood, and she is obviously dying. Emotionally intense scenes during the ballet of The Red Shoes, especially after the girl leaves the fair. On Vicki's wedding night, Lermontov , in frustrated jealousy, smashes a mirror with his fist after receiving a telegram announcing that she and Julian have just been married. |
