violence | Pretty intense in some areas. A man beats another man in the face, resulting in the loss of his eye. A young man hangs a chicken from the ceiling and kills it with a rock. A bunch of teenagers urinate on a small child. A violent prison guard abuses an inmate. A girl's intolerant father slaps her The love interest is killed during a raid |
profanity | Used pretty sparingly. Almost constant use of the word "kaffir", which is African for "infidel." |
frightening | The first half of the film can be pretty intense, especially for younger viewers. As a child, P.K. is urinated on by the older boys. One in particular, Jaapie Botha, is VERY cruel and seems to hate P.K. for almost no reason. He spits on him during a church service. A very disturbing scene as Botha leading the students in a Nazi worship ceremony, where he kills P.K.'s pet chicken and tries to kill him the same way. An evil prison guard abuses Piet and eventually beats him to death |
