nudity | Toward the beginning the mother comes into the living room in a shirt and panties and then she puts on jeans. In a couple of memory flashbacks we see the mother in bra and panties. |
violence | The portrayal of infliction of pain and injuries is depicted with some detail of blood and gore, but is not prolonged or frequent. The film contains scenes of violence mainly involving attacks on the humans by the monster. In one scene, a bloody severed arm is seen landing onto the bonnet of a car which was occupied by the protagonists. Think the goat from Jurassic Park, but bloodier and devoid of dark humor. In another prolonged sequence, the monster is seen grabbing and attacking a woman through the car window, before it slams a man against the windscreen of a vehicle. Think the kids from Jurassic Park getting attacked by the T-Rex, but replaced with adults to allow more impactful violence. There is also an intense scene where the monster repeatedly claws and bites into a woman while she flails helplessly. Think what actually happened to Dennis and the Dilaposaurus in Jurassic Park, if Dennis was replaced by a thinner lady. These scenes would thus be more appropriate for an older teen audience. |
profanity | There is some use of the expletive "f**k" in the film, especially in a scene where a woman utters a series of them in bursts at a young girl. |
frightening | 'The Monster' is a thriller about a monster terrorizing a mother and daughter on their journey through the woods. Official MPAA Rating: Rated R for language and some violence/terror |
