Jack shoots a bad guy, but they don't show the bad guy going down. The Russian sub's political officer is murdered (death is shown on-screen) in a quick struggle with the captain, but no blood or gore is part of the scene. The shot where tries to breathe, but can't because his neck is broken, can be a little disturbing. |

No drugs. Very brief drinking in scenes of meetings between politicians/diplomats, but alcohol is not the focus of such scenes. The Russian engineer smokes cigarettes and offers one to Jack Ryan when he boards the Russian sub. Jack accepts it, but turns green and starts coughing and they all laugh. This is a key plot point to establish trust between the Russians and Americans, as Ryan had previously stated that he didn't smoke. |

The final scenes with the torpedoes chasing the submarines and the explosions might be considered "intense" but my 6 and 3 year old didn't seem to be scared by it. The gunshots and pursuit of a KGB agent aboard the Russian sub may also be considered intense (see "Violence and Gore"). The death of the political officer is a brief but moderately intense struggle.
Most of the film feels very intense. Nothing too serious, though.
