A serial killer pins his crimes on two college students who gave him a ride. While driving through the New Mexico Desert during a rainy night, the college students Jim Halsey and his girlfriend Grace Andrews give a ride to the hitchhiker John Ryder. While in their car, the stranger proves to be a psychopath threatening the young couple with a knife, but Jim succeeds to throw him out of the car on the road. On the next morning, the young couple sees John in another car.

Movie Parental Guide

nudity There is a scene where Grace and Jim are having a shower together. They kiss but do not have sex and no actual nudity is shown. The villain asks Jim how long he has been f---ing Grace. Another sexual reference is when Grace feels someone in her bed (thinking it was Jim), and says "you're making me horny." At the beginning of the movie Grace changes her clothes in the car and her bra is seen. In general the movie has no sexual content.
violence Contains very few istances of strong violence, gore, torture. In the first scene, a CGI rabbit is run over by a car. Its gory, mutilated body is shown for few seconds (disturbing). A man finds the dead bodies of a family inside a car (no graphic details). The father is still alive and he has a knife stuck in his stomach. Blood briefly sprays from the wound as he dies. A girl finds several dead bodies inside a police station. Several police officers are shot, one at close range with blood splattering inside a car. A man is chained between two trucks and ripped in half. We see his body separating. Most graphic scene of them all. A man's throat is cut with a pair of handcuffs. Blood sprays from the open wound and he falls over dead. A man shoots another man in the head. A girl shoots a man in the head. Several intense car accidents.
profanity 38 F-words. Other profanities are heard as well.
alcohol None.
frightening Some intense car chase scenes and accidents. A grisly death scene that is very disturbing. Lots of suspense throughout the movie. Rated R for: strong bloody violence, terror, and language. (If you were to watch the 'Deleted Scenes,' you can see they actually took a lot of gore out of the movie. Many scenes in the movie are far more gory then the actual movie itself. if you were to watch the deleted scene and the college couple are being held in interrogation, you see more gore. In the actual movie you only see blood on the cops and a dog licking (or eating) at a cop. In one of several deleted scenes, this scene is far more gory. You see a few cops with there heads open and the dog eating a cop's brain, rather then just chewing on his skin. Very Disturbing and very graphic.
