violence | Some people are shot, with blood in some cases. In one scene, a man's head is graphically shot off with a shotgun (his head explodes in a bloody mess). A couple of ghosts are seen rotting (body parts falling off, etc.). The cloaked- figure (The Soul Collector) goes after people who have a number carved into their heads (only seen by Frank, although they aren't graphic). He is then seen plunging his hand into the victims chests and squeezing their hearts (which kills them instantly). The Soul Collector also slaughters other ghosts with an extremely large scythe, this slices them in half or kills them in another violent manner... but however, no red blood is seen, they usually just explode in a gooey mess. There are other more comical scenes where ghosts get hit or ran over by cars and trucks, etc. In a repeated flashback, we see a car fly off the road at high speed and then tumble down a hill. Each time we see the flashback, it reveals more. Like a dead woman's body lying on the ground with a number carved into her head, then we a girl holding the knife that did it, and we also see a ghost lying over her body and plunge his had into her chest (non-graphically). A man is shot in the arm by a small machine gun or uzi. |
profanity | Very frequent uses of goddamn; fuck is mouthed; some other mild language (hell, damn, piss, etc.) |
alcohol | Some characters are seen drinking wine in a restaurant. A couple of characters smoke. |
frightening | The Frighteners is a horror/comedy film; as such, there are quite few intense scenes. On the other hand, some of the violence is played for laughs, and shouldn't be disturbing. Many "jump out of your seat" or "GOTCHA!" moments. A decaying body is shown in it's coffin covered in maggots. Overall, the film shouldn't be taken seriously as it is a comedy. This movie was originally a PG-13 movie, but one scene showing a decaying body bumped it up. 13+ due to some graphic imagery. |
