nudity | A kissing scene in the dark, but no actual sex or nudity. |
violence | Many Jews are killed, but this is not seen. |
profanity | Some uses of the "D" word. Name calling. One "hell", but is referring to the place. |
alcohol | Mr. Van Daan smokes once but talks about smoking a few times. |
frightening | Some scenes may be frightening because there is always a chance that the families will be found by the Nazis. This creates an underlying tension throughout the whole film, except in the opening and closing scenes (most of the film is a flashback). The scene in which the families are finally arrested is also intense. Suggested MPAA rating: PG-13 for thematic elements including a disturbing image, some smoking and language, and brief sensuality. |
