Lorraine and Ed Warren travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.
nudity | Some sexual innuendo occurs between Ed and Lorraine Warren, but nothing too explicit. |
violence | In one scene, the members of a family are shot to death in their house, and there is brief sight of bloody wounds and blood spray (this scene is based on the 'Amityville' case). Characters are usually confronted by the demon spirit in a violent manner. For example, characters being violently hurled against the walls of the room, being nearly stabbed, strangled etc. A girl is influenced by a demon spirit to commit suicide as she prepares to fall on top of a tree stump, which would impale her. However, a man saves her in time. |
profanity | There is some moderate and mild bad language ('wanker', 'bloody', 'sod', 'God', 'hell', 'butt'). |
alcohol | An 11-year-old girl is seen holding a cigarette for another girl who was smoking it. There is some scenes of smoking between adult characters. |
frightening | The fact that this film is based on a true story and cause slight paranoia to some viewers. There are frequent prolonged scenes of strong threat and horror. Almost the whole movie is intense. There are some brief moments of emotional intensity/distress, but nothing too upsetting. There are several prolonged scenes in which children are terrorised by a supernatural threat, often in the form of demonic or ghostly spirits, and scenes in which a girl is possessed by an evil spirit. An 11-year-old girl speaks in a very deep and demonic voice, implying that a demon has possessed her body. This is very disturbing because the demon makes threats to the possessed girl and her family, and has a very sinister laugh which may cause discomfort to some viewers. MPAA (USA) - Rated R for terror and horror violence. BBFC (UK) - Rated 15 (strong horror). |
