nudity | Some brief discussions with sexual themes. Two sex scenes, neither having any nudity: one in which the woman is wearing a bra and panties, and the other in which their bodies are covered by bed-sheets but breathing and mild moaning can be heard. One scene in which a woman on the left side of the screen strips down to a bra and panties, then proceeds to take off her bra. Her breasts are visible for around 30 seconds total. A man sees his daughter dancing nude through a glass window. Brief frontal nudity, but she is covered in tattoos. This scene actually doesn't have a sexual context; the message is that he is devastated with who his daughter has become and what she's doing with her life. |
violence | A sink faucet sputters and its handle is blown off, hitting a man in the forehead. He covers the wound, but blood is clearly visible around the wound and on his shirt. There is a later close-up (about a second or two long) of him getting stitches. A man develops gross-looking pustules on his face; his face and body deteriorate over the course of the film. A man has gum surgery. We very briefly see a snippet of the (bloody) operation. Bed-sheets are covered with a moderate amount of blood after a brutal beating that isn't shown. Numerous weird deaths throughout the film. The world becomes increasingly apocalyptic as the film progresses and time passes. In the aftermath of an atomic bomb of some sort, there are many corpses and dead bodies. |
profanity | Moderate profanity and several uses of the word "fuck." |
alcohol | People talk about getting high. |
frightening | The film may be deeply depressing and pessimistic to some people. To others, it may be extremely quirky and humorous. A main theme of the film is the passing of time, and the main character's lack of awareness of it. The opening scene is a great example: he's reading the October 14th newspaper. Then later, the same newspaper seems to be showing the October 17th news. After that, he gets milk out of the fridge, only to find that it is past its expiration date (October 20th). But this entire sequence is shot to look like everything is happening on the same morning. Viewers may find things like this frightening or jarring. |
