nudity | 4/10 No nudity is shown, but there are frequent references to sexual activity (including one scene when Michelle Forbes and Frank Whaley hurry into his bedroom) and a lengthy speech by Kevin Spacey towards the film's close describing her character's sexual history. |
violence | 5/10 No gore as such, but sustained violence and torture. A character is shot towards the close of the film. A bound man is beaten until he's bruised, bleeding, and begging the torturer to stop. Later the man starts throwing salt, lemon juice, and hot sauce etc. on his wounded face. The torturer then pulls out an envelope and gives the man paper cuts on his face (on-screen) and then gives him one on his tongue (off-screen, but we hear screaming). A man fires a gun repeatedly, mostly warning shots. Then he fires at the camera's P.O.V.--killing someone. It's somewhat disturbing, but they are brief segments of the movie |
profanity | 10/10 Continuous strong language from Kevin Spacey's character, plus occasional instances involving several of the others. 100+ uses of Fuck, probably 40-50 uses of shit, maybe 5 or 6 uses of bitch, goddamn, hell, and crap |
alcohol | 3.5 There are frequent scenes featuring characters smoking and several where characters drink. |
frightening | 3.5 Several scenes of torture. |
