In 1987, five young men, using brutally honest rhymes and hardcore beats, put their frustration and anger about life in the most dangerous place in America into the most powerful weapon they had: their music. Taking us back to where it all began, Straight Outta Compton tells the true story of how these cultural rebels-armed only with their lyrics, swagger, bravado and raw talent-stood up to the authorities that meant to keep them down and formed the world's most dangerous group, N.W.A. And as they spoke the truth that no one had before and exposed life in the hood, their voice ignited a social revolution that is still reverberating today .
nudity | A few party scenes around swimming pools that show women wearing bikinis (about 3 or 4 briefly glimpsed topless and one lady naked though seen from behind only). -In the Director's Cut, the scenes at the pool party show more nudity and are not as brief. One fully nude woman (from behind) is shown dancing in slow motion (breasts are clearly shown) DJ Yella has sex with a woman named Valaria (on a hotel bed) as a wild party rages around them. (We see explicit movements under the covers and brief full nudity when she gets up.) Eazy-E later said that a woman named Felicia performed oral sex on him- (Director's cut shows the woman's head in his crotch simulating oral sex- this is brief though and no male nudity) In one scene Dr.Dre is seen grabbing a woman's buttocks While on the tour bus, DJ Yella is watching pornography (briefly seen, graphic) beside MC Ren and the other members are annoyed by the audio and then joke around. (Director's Cut) In a pool party, two fully nude women sit on a fully nude man's face and genitals. (Director's Cut) |
violence | The opening scene involves Eazy-E being involved in a drug deal and he escapes the house where the deal is. Guns are involved. Throughout the movie, the members of N.W.A and other dark-colored people are often bullied or arrested by police officers A performance of "Fuck tha Police" is interrupted by police officers and the members of N.W.A. are arrested. During this scene, the audience of the concert incites a riot. When Ice Cube doesn't get his money from Bryan Turner, he smashes up his office. In one scene Suge Knight and his men beat up Eazy E for not signing some papers Ice Cube starts a fight in a hotel lobby after someone mentions "Ruthless". Dr. Dre witnesses Suge Knight and his goons beat up a man in underwear, as well as Suge beating up an employee after he parked his car at Suge's parking lot. In an earlier scene, Suge also beats up Eazy-E with his goons. Suge's violent tendencies are also a reason why Dr. Dre leaves his label. We see the aftermath of the Rodney King riots. During a recording session, Eazy-E collapses and is sent to the hospital. He is then diagnosed with HIV, in which he later dies from. |

Some of the profanity is said in the music throughout the movie, with one of the songs being titled, 'Fuck tha Police'. Also, at a concert, Ice Cube tells the crowd to raise their middle fingers. |
alcohol | Alcohol is consumed almost religiously by one character and is used a lot by others. There is drug use, but not a hefty amount. The opening scene of this movie is Eazy E in a trap house. Weed and coke are on the table. People are smoking weed. Eazy-E smokes weed again with his bandmates in a later scene. |
frightening | There may be one or two frightening scenes in this film, especially the scenes involving the police and another where a group of gang members intentionally intimidate kids on a school bus. Ice Cube using a bat to smash his label executive's office with frustration can be intense. There are some emotional scenes, including (but may not be limited to) a scene where Dr. Dre cries strongly following the death of his brother, and when Eazy-E collapses during a recording session and is eventually diagnosed with AIDS. Dr. Dre and Ice Cube visit him in the hospital where he is treated. Eazy-E eventually dies. There is a lot of crying in this scene. The official ratings are listed below.
