nudity | Shelby's fiancee sneaks in through a window and enters the bathroom, where she's in a bubble bath. He sits on the side of the tub to talk to her, and she then gets out and puts on a robe, obviously not concerned that he's seeing her naked. She tells him that if her daddy catches him in there, he'll "cut off your thing". Shelby says she and her fiancee went "parking" and then skinny dipping and "did things that frightened the fish". Clairee interviews the football coach in the locker room after a game. Many players are naked, and their bare behinds are shown. Oiser uses a mirror to try to see behind herself to where the guys are changing. One character says she lost her head for a while and was "drinking, smoking, and acting like a Jezebel" until a friend helped her straighten out. The bride and groom's getaway car (from their reception), is covered in condoms. |
violence | Drum uses a gun (we later learn he's shooting blanks) to scare birds from the trees before his daughter's wedding. He and his sons later use a bow and arrows with fireworks attached for the same purpose. Drum jokingly threatens to shoot an obnoxious neighbor. The groom's aunt makes an armadillo cake for the wedding, and it's red velvet cake inside, so it looks graphic when cut into. |
profanity | Many uses of "sh*t". One "G*dd*mmit" and several "Chr*st". One "son of a b****". |
alcohol | Ouiser and Spud smoke cigarettes. There are incidental uses of and references to champagne and wine, but no drunkenness. One character becomes very religious and pours out her boyfriend's beer, saying she won't have it in the house. One of the characters mentions that her estranged husband is on the run from the law, possibly because of drugs. |
frightening | A character has diabetes and has a scary low-blood-sugar attack; it's intense while the others are trying to get candy and juice into her. Later, she needs a kidney transplant, and her mother donates a kidney. The scenes of the family waiting during the surgery are tense and suspenseful. Both recover, but the daughter later goes into a coma and dies, leaving her toddler son motherless. |
