In the months after the heady weeks of May '68, a group of young Europeans search for a way to continue the revolution believed to be just beginning.
During the 1970s a student named Gilles gets entangled in contemporary political turmoils although he would rather just be a creative artist. While torn between his solidarity to his friends and his personal ambitions he falls in love with Christine.
A couple of sex scenes, not gratuitous, and a few scenes of nudity, including topless women (several times) and two scenes of a man where his penis is shown in a non-sexual context.

A riot between students and police occurs in which students are shown being beaten fairly viciously by police with batons.

In addition to the riot scene described previously, a character is entrapped by a fire and apparently jumps from a high window of a house resulting in death.
