violence | There are a few violent scenes in this movie, although they are quite low level and many children have probably encountered such before. I refer to a scene where six dwarves turn against a seventh, fortunately no weapons are used and this is limited to "tackling" as it were. However this scene does end in the seventh dwarf been bound and locked in a cupboard to settle down. Those of us who were around in the 80's may remember a british show called 'The young ones' and in one episode, one character is locked in a fridge. At least the BBC had the decency to put up a warning message about this. And as for binding people with rope; this did used to happen with skipping ropes when I went to school, and things seem to be getting worse, rather than better: think of stories of chldren taking knives or guns to school... Another violent scene involves an enraged queen throwing her magic mirrror at a deceptive hunter, the mirror chases the hunter and eventually corners him; and although we don't see it, we do hear a sound that is surely the sound of the hunter been beheaded. |
frightening | This movie does contain some supernatural themes, in particular a witch turning people to stone, which may frighten young children. However children who can brave Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies will probably cope with this. |
