When Bond's latest assignment goes gravely wrong and agents around the world are exposed, MI6 is attacked forcing M to relocate the agency. These events cause her authority and position to be challenged by Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes), the new Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee. With MI6 now compromised from both inside and out, M is left with one ally she can trust: Bond. 007 takes to the shadows - aided only by field agent, Eve (Naomie Harris) - following a trail to the mysterious Silva (Javier Bardem), whose lethal and hidden motives have yet to reveal themselves.
nudity | 5/10 Bond appears to have sexual relations with two women. He engages one while standing against a wall. (Both are naked with critical body parts obscured.) Later, they lounge in bed. He meets the second in a casino. She's wearing a revealing dress ... and a gun. Later, Bond shows up on the woman's boat and slips, naked, into her shower as she's taking one. Kissing and making out ensues, leaving the impression that they do much more after the scene cuts. Eve gives Bond a straight razor shave, adding to the experience touches of sensuality in the way she touches his face. The next day they exchange a sexually charged double entendre or two. Silva also makes "moves" on James. And when the bad dude bad-mouths M, Bond quips that at least she never tied him to a chair. "Her loss," Silva says. Then he begins to stroke Bond's thighs and face, talking suggestively all the while. Bond responds by suggesting this isn't the first time he has been sexually involved with a man. The film's opening sequence, of course, features a number of lithe, stylized women writhing in time to the theme song. |
violence | 6/10 A character is dropped from a skyscraper, though his ultimate impact with the ground isn't shown. Bond extracts the remnants of a bullet from his torso using a knife (some blood). Bond engages in a fight with three bodyguards. One is killed by a Komodo dragon (we see the bite wound and him being dragged away). A woman is shot in the stomach and dies (offscreen, but the dead body is seen later). Silva kills two guards (offscreen, bodies are shown briefly on the ground). Silva leads some of his men dressed as police officers to a public inquiry in order to kill M. A shootout engages, police guards are shot and some people attending the inquiry are shot but no blood is shown. A few dead bodies are shown at the start with bloody wounds/pools of blood. A man opens his mouth and shows that all but two teeth in his upper jaw are fake and that his left jawbone is fake. A character is shot in the head by a sniper. There is some brief blood spray. Silva's armed men engage in a shootout with Bond, M and Kincade. Bond uses the Aston Martin's guns to shoot and kill some of Silva's men. The rest are shot otherwise but no blood is shown on any of the bodies. Silva and the rest of his men arrive in a helicopter causing much destruction, Skyfall blows up, ejecting shrapnel into the helicopter pilots and causing the helicopter to crash into Skyfall causing a huge explosion killing many of Silva's men. Bond wrestles a gun off one of Silva's men and shoots the ice they are standing on into freezing cold water. Bond strangles Silva's last men getting him into a headlock in his leg. Silva puts a gun to M's head and puts his head on the other side of her head and tells her to kill them both. She refuses to and Bond throws a knife into Silva's back. He dies from this. M is shot during Silva's assault on Skyfall and dies from blood loss. All the violence is shown very stylized, and a bit unrealistic. |
profanity | 4/10 One use of the phrase "fucked up" is said, but it is very easy to miss as it is said casually. |
alcohol | 4/10 Medical tests reveal that Bond may be addicted to alcohol and other substances. We see him pop pills (perhaps painkillers) and drink almost constantly in the Caribbeanplaying a drinking game involving a live scorpion at night, slapping some cash on the bar in exchange for access to a bottle of liquor in the morning. He accepts his trademark vodka martini, which he deems "perfect.". A Girl Is Seen Smoking A Very Long Time. |
frightening | 4/10 Many of the action and chase scenes are very intense and suspenseful. The whole climax and battle at Skyfall is very tense. A man opens his mouth and shows that all but two teeth in his upper jaw and his entire left jawbone are fake; it gives him quite a frightening and disturbing appearance. M's death may be upsetting to many people. 23/50 12-13+ |
