violence While not especially bloody, there are several violent scenes in this film. Several members of a burial party are ambushed and killed by a rifleman. Atrocities commited by Indians and cavalry soldiers are described. The aftermath of a massacre is shown. A woman, mortally wounded, is depicted mostly out of frame as she moans. She is then put out of her misery by a man with an offscreen gunshot. During an Indian attack on a homestead several warriors are shot while on horseback. One man falls into burning brush and attempts to crawl out as his clothes are set aflame. Much agonized screaming as another man refuses to shoot him and put him out of his misery. A cavalry officer finally fires a shot and kills the injured man. An infant dies offscreen and the body, concealed in a blanket, is placed in a grave. A man is shot and killed without much blood shown. A man is blindfolded and shot by a firing squad. No blood is depicted and the scene is in medium shot. Several men are forced to run a gauntlet and are beaten with sticks. They are then dragged behind horses as the attacks continue. One man is stabbed in the lower leg with a spear. The final battle scene contains many shootings although none are bloody. Several characters perish as a wagonload of gunpowder and rifles explode.
frightening One man displays a hateful attitude towards Apaches due to the death of his wife and child during a raid. It is clear he is bent on revenge and wishes to kill as many Indians as possible. In one scene he watches and laughs as a wounded Indian, his clothes on fire, screams in agony.
