nudity | - Two characters have a playful romp with water in the shower, which is them spraying water onto each other no nudity. This scene is followed by a sex scene where they are both naked, but no 'parts' are shown except backs, shoulders, faces etc - There are a few love scenes that are passionate in nature, between the two naked protagonists, but no nudity shown. - Ally appears in her bra in one scene that ends in lovemaking - this is implied by the two characters lying next to one another on a bed afterwards |
violence | Movie opens to an intense mugging scene in the subway that ends with a woman being shot and killed. There is a street fight outside of a bar where some of the characters are punched and Tyler has bruising on his face. In one scene, Ally's father confronts Tyler and almost strangles him. Ally's father slaps her, and she falls down. |

alcohol | Tyler smokes cigarettes throughout the movie, but is regularly reminded that he should quit. Tyler makes a reference to his roommate getting high. No drug use is shown, though. Characters drink wine socially at dinner. In one scene, Ally (age 21, despite misleading Tyler early in the film by saying that she's 19) attends a party with Tyler and Aidan, and is shown vomiting afterwards because of her drunkenness. Tyler then mentions that she had too many Jello shots. |
frightening | Mugging / murder scene in the beginning is intense. Murder is left unresolved. Confrontation between Tyler and his father in the boardroom contains dramatic tension. Ending has elements of the September 11th attacks, where Tyler is standing in Charles' office in one of the Twin Towers, the movie shows his little sister's teacher writing "September 11th, 2001" on the chalkboard, and then it goes to black. Tyler's grave is then shown. |
