nudity | Themes of love and sexual ambiguity are explored, though no sexual acts are actually seen. |
violence | Contains moderate violence throughout the film. Two young men fight with switchblades and stab each other with them. In a later scene, the resulting wounds can be seen through a character's shirt. A few characters are shot; however, these instances of violence lack great detail. A character drives a car over a cliff and perishes. The car is seen exploding from a distance. Some characters intimidate others by shaking and/or strangling them. At the end of the film Plato is shot and killed by a police officer Very intense and sad. |
profanity | None. |
alcohol | Contains infrequent casual smoking. A teenager appears to be heavily intoxicated and behaves in an eccentric manner. |
frightening | A domestic dispute occurs between a child and his parents. He eventually threatens his father by strangling him but is quick to relent and is appalled by his actions. A daughter's affections towards her father are regularly rejected. She cries upon revealing that he referred to her as a "tramp". The scene where Plato dies is very intense especially for a film released in 1955. The film deals with themes of adolescence, disillusionment with the human condition and imitable behaviour that may require adult guidance. |
