Movie Parental Guide

nudity Live action: A couple instances of nudity throughout the film but they are always rife and never last long. The nudity is just bare butts or breasts and never anything worse Animated:[/ Some phallic looking animated people. They looks somewhat along the lines of Terry Gillian's drawings for Monty Python.
violence Live action: The movie is surprisingly violent and bloody, but most of the violence is animated. There are several shots of soldiers that are either dead, or dying. There are many instances of violence and gore stemming from the film's Nazi and war themes. A teacher beats students with a paddle. In one scene that is repeated several times throughout the film, a man appears to be drowning in a pool of his own blood. Children fall into a giant meat-grinder twice in this movie. These include a bombing as well as several bloody and dark animated sequences. A lot of shots of people rioting in streets. (Breaking into stores, cars, bombings, etc.) A man begins to destroy his room, and throws wine bottles, tables, chairs etc. at a woman. He throws his TV out the window, and we see it crushed when it hits the ground. The man stands at the broken window, and yells at the world, while he grips onto broken glass, as blood runs down. A man shaves his face, and then his chest. As he shaves his chest he cuts himself twice and a lot of blood is shown. He then disposes of the bloody razor, and lets blood drip off of his body. As he exits his bathroom, we see that he has also shaved his eyebrows in a bloody fashion, and that blood is splattered against his walls. A child wanders through some trenches from the war and finds several dead bodies. One of them is shown dead, in a very bloody manner. A man's skins melts, and he tears it off. Animated: In an animated sequence, a bird explodes as another bird emerges from it. A lot of blood is seen, and will disturb some. A soldier bashes a man's head in with a bat. His brains splatter out and blood is everywhere.. The schoolmaster's wife beats up a puppet of him. Not graphic and seen for about 2 seconds. The schoolmaster shoves a bunch of kids into a meat grinder. Also brief. After the judge orders the wall to be torn down, he "defecates". Kinda gross, but brief. Note this scene is animated, and the feces looks more like vomit and hot dogs, rather than human waste.
profanity "Fuck" is said twice, but not distinct. "Shit" is said in two songs, once in each.
alcohol Drugs are a major part of the movie. Several characters are seen doing various types of illegal drugs. Characters also smoke and drink at parties. An animated sequence depicts a syringe (which most likely symbolizes drug use) There are some sequences where there is smoking of cigarettes and marijuana. There is also drinking involved. A man gets injected with drugs to wake him from a trance. While on drugs a man believes that his skin has melted into an insect-like substance. There is a scene where a man thinks he's being attacked by a giant flower.
frightening The movie is surprisingly intense. It's usually not very scary, but at some parts it might frighten some. The movie also does build up a very very dark atmosphere, and it can be emotionally exhausting and disturbing to watch for several viewers. Live action: A man is shown on a telephone in a trench, a bomb flashes, and he is seen dead The Nazi-theme may be intense for some viewers as well as a couple of other disturbing sequences, A man has an emotional breakdown and trashes his hotel room. In the infamous "Comfortably Numb" scene a man has his flesh melt in a surprisingly graphic manner. He then tears off his flesh revealing his true face. This scene might be disturbing to several viewers. A man cuts himself on broken glass (blood is seen) A man appears to be drowning in a pool of blood A man gets cut while shaving his face and chest with a razor A little boy wanders through an insane asylum and finds his future self, a little bit disturbing/frightening. Children fall into a meat grinder and are seen coming out of the grinder as (obviously fake) meat. Kind of gross and disturbing. A little boy wanders through some of the trenches from a battle and finds several dead soldiers, some are covered in blood. May be hard to watch for some. In the "Mother" sequence, a young sick boy runs into his mother's room twice. The second time, we see a zoomed-in close-up of his father's skeleton lying next to her in bed, an obvious instance of symbolism. May be very startling and scary for some, as the music crescendos at that very moment. Animated: Children are shoved into a meat grinder all at once, just like the scene mentioned above. This scene is not that graphic and is over fast. All the cartoon sequences may be intense and very disturbing to some, especially the flower scene described in sex/nudity. The ending trial scene has some very frightening images that may scare children. The film deals with themes such as: War, Death, Sex, Drugs, Isolation and Fascism,
