nudity A teenage boy can be seen kissing a young woman's bare breasts. A man has sex with a person, seemingly a woman, whose face cannot be seen. They are both fully clothed. By implication, a young boy gives a man a handjob, in the dark, after the man asks him for help clearing the man's seminal ducts. The man can be heard moaning in relief or pleasure. Laying in bed, a teenage boy masturbates under the covers, in an overhead shot. The bare buttocks of a teenage boy in the shower can be briefly seen. A man lightly tugs at at a young boy's swimming trunks, trying to remove them, but momentarily the boy grasps at the trunks to stop this. The shot cuts to after the boy has been molested by the man. With his private areas out of frame, a nude young boy sits atop the beach sands. A group of boys look at a magazine containing images of Baroquesque portrait paintings of naked women.
violence No gore. A man uses a trouser belt to spank a young boy, striking him several times. The boy weeps some. Abuse of authority is a major theme of the story, and much of the implied violence is thereby connected. Several teenage boys and younger boys bully a smaller boy; seizing him, taking him to a gymnasium, encircling him, pushing him around and even striking him in the abdomen, causing him to kneel and collapse to the floor. A young boy comes across a half-buried dead dog. A very small amount of blood can be seen when a man uses a sewing needle to prick one of his fingers and one of the fingers of a young boy.
alcohol In one scene, several minors drink wine together and exhibit somewhat altered states of mind. In an earlier scene, they smoke a cigarette, passing it around among themselves. Intimately, a man and a young boy drink wine and smoke cigarettes together. A suffering man uses a syringe to inject a gold-tinted, translucent liquid containing an unidentified drug into his arm.
frightening There are no intense scenes and nothing especially frightening, but the general theme of the children and teenagers being at the absolute mercy of an institution of "father" figures is conveyed, yet it does not stand out as much as themes of loneliness, rejection, guilt, deception (manipulation), fantasy, innocence, jealousy and obsolescence. In one scene, however, a young boy stares despondently at the horizon of the sea while standing atop a very high cliff but not dangerously close to the edge, before a man rushes toward him and seizes him. Even though the movie is not graphic at all, it may not be for the faint of heart.
