A twenty-something comediennes unplanned pregnancy forces her to confront the realities of independent womanhood for the first time.

For aspiring comedian Donna Stern, everyday life as a female twenty-something provides ample material for her hysterical and relatable brand of humor. On stage, Donna is unapologetically herself, joking about topics as intimate as her sex life and as crude as her day-old underwear. But when Donna winds up unexpectedly pregnant after a one-night stand, she is forced to face the uncomfortable realities of independent womanhood for the first time. Donnas drunken hookup - and epic lapse in prophylactic judgment - turns out to be the beginning of a hilarious and totally unplanned journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

Movie Parental Guide

nudity 4/10 A woman has a drunken one night stand (please see the Substance Use category for more details); they dance in their underwear (he wears a T-shirt and boxers while she wears a bra that reveals some cleavage with skimpy panties), they fall into a bed and we see them both grip a wrapped condom in their teeth and the camera cuts to morning as the woman is shown wearing the bra and we see her panties under the man's head and his bare arms above a quilt; the camera cuts to her squatting to gather her clothing and the scene ends. Soon after a one-night stand, a woman learns that she is pregnant and discusses the issue with her female roommate before deciding to have an abortion; she is briefly sad over this decision, but goes through with it, and the roommate says that she had an abortion and thinks sadly of it from time to time, but does not regret it. A woman's mother says that she had an illegal abortion in the 1960s and does not regret it. Several scenes feature a twenty something woman doing a raunchy, self-deprecating stand-up comedy routine at a bar; she mentions "vagina" several times and says the organ makes women's underwear dirty, as if the panties are dragged through cream cheese; she says a man sat on her face for sex and she received farts in the face, making several fart sounds with her mouth; she says she sometimes masturbates; she says women in the 1960s had big bushes (pubic hair), calls her boyfriend "dick worthy" and "bangs her out" (he breaks up with her the next day); she says that she loves pregnant ladies, but is not ready to be a mother.
violence 2/10 At a women's clinic we see a medical drawing of three female wombs and vaginas, with an egg attaching to the wall of one uterus and a woman asks for an abortion. We see a woman with her face and shoulders in close-up, face up to the camera, as she lies in a reclined clinic treatment chair and a female doctor says the procedure is starting as we hear a soft buzzing and the scene ends.
profanity 5/10 About 24 F-words and its derivatives, 6 sexual references, 19 scatological terms, 31 anatomical terms, 6 mild obscenities, 2 religious profanities (GD) and 9 religious exclamations (e.g. For Christ's Sake, Oh My God, Oh God, Thank God). Name-calling (crazy, mad, sociopath, stupid, weird and weird old white men.) Stereotypical references to men, women, comedians, parents, grandparents, the rich, Jews, Christians, white men, Dominicans, Baby Boomers, conservative grad students and homosexuals.
alcohol 4/10 A woman becomes groggy from the effects of a sedative given for an abortion and closes her eyes. A woman employee of an older man whose bookshop is closing jokingly tells him that he should go away to Woodstock to enjoy music and drugs and he laughs and says that he might do that. Several scenes feature a club in which many men and women drink glasses of whiskey and mixed drinks as well as bottles of beer and glasses of wine while we see a long shelf of many liquor bottles with some wine bottles and beer taps. Alcohol is present in other scenes as well, but it is not abused.
frightening 0/10 None Overall: 15/50
