There is panic throughout the nation as the dead suddenly come back to life. The film follows a group of characters who barricade themselves in an old farmhouse in an attempt to remain safe from these flesh eating monsters. A group of people try to survive an attack of bloodthirsty zombies while trapped in a rural Pennsylvania farmhouse. Although not the first zombie film, Night of the Living Dead is the progenitor of the contemporary "zombie apocalypse" horror film, and it greatly influenced the modern pop-culture zombie archetype.
nudity | 2/10 A naked female zombie walks toward a house and her buttocks are clearly seen, but only for one second because as she inches closer to the house all nudity is covered up in the shadows almost immediately after it is shown. [46:30-37] |
violence | 8/10 - This movie was released in 1968, but it is not as tamed by today's standards as some might imagine. The only thing that holds it back from being extremely violent was that it was shot in black and white thus decreasing how gory and bloody it looks. Several scenes showing zombies eating body parts A man gets into a fight with a zombie and is subsequently killed. A partially decomposed face of a dead body is shown. Very surprising A man has his skull crushed. A man and woman are blown up in a car. A little zombie girl kills a woman with a masonry trowel. This is probably the goriest scene in the whole movie. A woman is dragged into a large group of zombies and killed off-screen. A man is shot in the stomach and then eaten by zombies. A man is shot in the head. Not graphic, but surprising and very unsettling |
profanity | 3/10 1 use of "Jesus, and 2 of "God." 3 instances of "damn," 2 of "hell," and 1 of "bastard." |
alcohol | 2/10 A man smokes throughout the film. A woman is seen smoking once. |
