violence | Bloody violence throughout. In the first opening minutes of the film we see the Bride getting shot in the head. It is in black and white, but much blood splatters out of her head. The blood can be seen only for an extremely brief amount of time, because it cuts off to the opening credits almost as soon as she's shot. The Bride is at one point, shot at a very close range by Budd with a shotgun, which is revealed to be full of rock salt. She is knocked unconscious as a result of this. A minute later, we see her tied up and prepared to be buried alive. Budd says if she struggles at all, he'll spray a can of mace in her eyes, although he doesn't do this. The Bride is then buried alive. She escapes. Budd is attacked by a snake. It bites his face several times and we see him on the floor with a swollen face. Budd later dies from the snake bites. The Bride asks Elle Driver how she lost her eye, and we briefly see, in a flashback, her face with lots of blood where her eye used to be. Later, the Bride plucks Elle's remaining eye out, and we see the very bloody face where the eye used to be and the Elle thrashes and screams. We see the eyeball fall onto the floor, and we see a close up of it being squished the Bride's foot. This is by far the most gruesome scene. Several close-combat fighting scenes with lots of kicking, punching, and Mêlée weapons. Sometimes, the results are somewhat bloody. In the cast sequence we see brief images from Kill Bill, Vol. 1 that contain several bloody injuries -- including a brief image where a woman is holding a man's decapitated head. In the ending, Bill and the Bride fight with swords all while sitting at a table. The Bride does a move that will make Bill's heart explode after he walks five steps, which he does. There's no blood or gore in this sequence, except for a mild amount in Bill's mouth. Vol. 2 has some quite violent scenes. Still, it's overall not as bad as the first one. |
profanity | "Fuck" is said 30 times "Shit" is said about ten times. "C'nt" is said once, in a joking way Some milder language throughout: "bitch," "ass," and "goddamn." |
alcohol | Three characters are smokers. We see two characters clearly snorting cocaine casually, one of them a prostitute and the other telling her to do it. A drunk man continues to drink. Other characters drink as well, sometimes to excess. A woman tells a man to smoke some pot. |
frightening | One extremely tense scene involves a character being buried alive in a wooden box. Very hard to watch, especially when she is seen crying in a box underground. Though slightly comical in nature, the scenes in which Elle Driver's eyes are literally plucked out of her head are extremely painful to watch, not for the squeamish. The Bride's final confrontation with Bill (although they only fight for about 30 seconds) and the lead up to it is very intense, emotionally. |
