Violence right from the start, when a lone gunman shoots five people with a sniper rifle (a scene that's revisited later in the movie), with the deaths seen in the distance. In later flashbacks, the killings are depicted at closer range. The deaths are quite explicit and even include small amounts of blood spray. One of the victims is a nanny who is caring for a 6-year-old child and reassuring her everything is going to be OK just before being shot (this is not shown onscreen like the other deaths, though). It's a fairly disturbing scene.
Jack Reacher, the main character, is a former soldier, highly trained with guns and in hand-to-hand combat, and the film finds plenty of chances to showcase his abilities. He takes on a group of toughs in a few street brawls, leaving them bloodied and sometimes with (minor) fractures. Other scenes feature execution-style killings and allusions to torture. Not graphic and very brief. There's also a high-speed chase through city streets that damages plenty of cars.

One character killed by hitting him twice in the head with a large rock. This is quite explicit. Another victim is killed by having his skull crushed offscreen by being stepped on.
