Hollywood Movies | Drama | Comedy | Romance
nudity | A vague masturbation reference in one scene where a teenage girl thinks that her younger brother is reading a Playboy magazine. This is only verbally indicated, and there is no such action or magazine involved. A girl wonders about kiss at a very young age (nothing explicit though). A teenage boy is seen barechested, he's simply changing clothes though. |
violence | Slightly mature themes are featured in the movie: A tree that a girl loves is cut down, it may cause emotional impact to younger viewers. A father slaps his daughter. A snake eating and vomiting an egg might upset some viewers. |
profanity | At least 2 "s" words, 4 hells, 1 ass (used with "hole"), 1 crap and 1 damn. Many of these are spoken by children. It also has 1 use of GD and a slurred version of Christ's sake. Very strong for a PG rating. The use of 'retarded' and 'retard' is used a few times in reference to mentally disabled man (keeping in mind that at this time in the movie it is 1963). |
alcohol | A sit down dinner with two families shows that they are drinking liquor. The father is shown drinking at times. He is not shown to be drunk though the inference could be there at times. |
frightening | Julie goes off to see her uncle (who's mentally challenged) for the first time ever. That goes fine until he drops his ice cream cone and panics, overturning a table, yelling, etc. until her dad controls him and she brings him new ice cream. Rated PG for: Adult Content, Adult Language.(HBO advisory) The entire film is a little inappropriate for a PG rating (Suggested MPAA Rating: PG-13 for thematic material) |
