violence | Firestarter is a horror film where the main character Charlie (Drew Barrymore) can start fires with her mind (called pyrokinesis). Many people are show to be on fire and burning. A man is seen with bloodied eyes and blood running down his face. In the book he does this to his own eyes with his fingers, but only the aftermath of this is shown in the movie. Very disturbing. There are several occasions where Andrew (David Keith) is seen with a nose bleed, because using his mind-bending powers make his nose bleed. Charlie is poisoned and forced into the back of a van. Andrew follows a trail of blood and discovers his dead wife stuffed in a closet with a bloody rag stuffed in her mouth. She has blood on her finger tips too. An old man is shot in the arm by government agents. There is a close-up of a burning skull, one of Charlie's victims. Dr. Wanless (who oversaw the Lot Six experiments) is woken up in the middle of the night by John Rainbird and is karate-chopped in the face, causing his nose to bleed. He dies. A postman is strangled with a rope by Rainbird. He also dies. Andrew and Charlie are shot with tranquilizer darts and knocked out. John Rainbird discusses his plans to murder Charlie with Captain Hollister. Captain Hollister is shot through the head, there is a brief shot of blood exiting the back of his head and a shot of him lying on the floor with a bullet hole in the middle of his forehead. |
