nudity | In one scene, a woman is topless throughout a fairly long conversation. There is much talk in multiple discussions about male genitalia using common slang terms, including a reference to President Johnson. One of the discussions is about a book and accompanying illustrations, two of which are shown. Three times during the film, a couple is seen having sex on a chair. In two instances the image is quite fuzzy. No nudity is shown in any of these instances. When a fully nude woman (shot from the side) gets into a bath, her breasts are in view from the side and from the front. The Venus de Milo is shown in one scene. There is a montage that includes numerous sexual clips including a man buttoning his pants as he walks a way from a topless woman, a woman patting a man's bare butt, standing sex and sex on a chair. A nude couple are shown from the side while having sex. As the camera pans along their bodies, the woman's breasts are visible. A man seen from the shoulders up masturbates while looks at photos of rear views of nude men. A nude woman lying face down on a bed is given a shot, and as she continues in conversation she raises up showing her breasts. |
violence | When the film shows drugs being injected, sometimes a character's butt is seen to have several bruises already. |
profanity | The F-word is used 33 times, and the S-word is used eight times. There is extended dialog about drawings of penises using the C-word. 'Queer' and 'fag' are used as insults. |
alcohol | People smoke almost constantly throughout the film. People drink not only at social gatherings but also in private meetings. Some of the drinking is to excess. Recreational drugs and the effects of taking drugs are a significant subject in the film. Consequently, there are many, many scenes of characters using various kinds of drugs--prescription pills, speed and diet pills, marijuana, heroin, helium. There is a close-up of heroin being heated in a spoon, and there are many close-ups of injections (some of them quick enough to jolt the viewer). |
frightening | Intense sexual scenes and scenes of drug usage may be too much for some audiences. In particular, the close-ups of injections might be cringe-inducing. There is also a few lines about childhood sexual abuse that come as kind of a shock. |
