The film has a gothic tone with scenes that range in a variety of different styles.
The Telltale Heart segment is full of unnerving visuals complemented by eerie music and a chilling narration from Bela Lugosi. While nothing to graphic happens in this segment, it is very creepy.
An old man assumed to be dead wakes up shouting "wake me up!" His eyes then turn black and he coughs up a black liquid.
An inmate is strapped to a table where a pendelum swings slowly towards his chest. He survives.
