As a killer named Cinderhella stalks the student body at the high school in Grizzly Lake, a group of co-eds band together to survive while they're all serving detention.
nudity | 6/10 Several crude mentions of sex, virginity, sexual acts/positions, and body parts/fluids. Two instances of female nudity. One brief sex scene with no graphic details. A girl's (Riley's body double) breast is exposed by Sander, shown for a few seconds, is photographed and posted on the internet. Bare breasts are shown (by Beauty Beast Victim) in a film-within-a-film sequence. One scene shows a high-school football player having sex in bed (he's bare-chested and thrusting on top of his date). There's an involved discussion about how only virgins are targeted by masked movie serial killers, and then the two girls taunt each other that they should each be safe (since one is promiscuous and the other has an embarrassing first time to recount). A girl tells a guy that he lied because it's "not normal for semen to glow in the dark." A girl provokes her teacher; he breaks the embrace and goes to his gay lover, who smacks him in the rear. The two men are later seen kissing. Two teens get into a scuffle that looks like the guy is having sex, instead of fighting, with the girl. They are completely clothed and the scene is humorous. |
violence | 8/10 Some scenes are pretty gory and strong, but overall the violence is usually not particularly graphic. The aim of Detention's violence is to shock but also to amuse, so many of the gory scenes have a humorous undertone. At the beginning Taylor vomits into a toilet on purpose. Nothing is shown. Clapton vomits into a urinal it is shown from a distance, and then it is zoomed into displaying the name of a credit at the beginning A serial killer armed with an axe murders several teenagers throughout the movie: most of them get stabbed to death; a guy has his arm cut off and then gets his throat sliced (lots of blood); a girl is decapitated with an axe (graphic). A girl is stalked by the killer who is trying to kill her but does not succeed. There is a rather high body count. The films-within-the-film are gory, and feature one torture sequence and several stabbings. A girl is forced to place an item inside her stomach, so her insides are visible. A character blows himself up. Blood splatters everywhere. A girl attempts suicide by hanging herself, but it is treated in a joking manner. A girl gets her throat slit. She is stabbed repeatedly, then thrown out her bedroom window and finally lands on a car. Lots of blood sprays. A dog explodes. The scene is very brief but also very gory. |
profanity | A few F-words and other profanity, not very much overall. |
alcohol | 7/10 Lots of underage drinking, from beer to hard liquor (vodka, cocktails). Several teenagers get drunk at a party, some to the point of vomiting. A girl drinks until she's so wasted that she accidentally hooks up with a guy on the couch, who (once again accidentally) ends up exposing her breast, which is quickly photographed and texted to the entire school, as well as being posted in the internet. A mother is a lush who's rarely shown without a drink in her hand. |
frightening | 9/10 There's loads of the blood, gore, and at times comic violence expected from this genre. Several jump scenes, including a girl getting stalked by a killer and attacked both in her bedroom and at school, and intense chase scenes. There's also one scene of a girl trying to hang herself, which might upset parents, and disturb any person who's ever dealt with suicidal thoughts or the suicide of a loved one. 40/50 - Recommended for 16+ (bloody violence, crude humor, strong language, heavy drinking, some sexuality) |
