nudity | While gru shrinking the moon, the howling is heard from a shadowed wolf. But as the moon shrinks, the shadowed wolf reveals to be a naked man. Covering his private. A man thrusts his hips in a suggestive fashion while dancing by himself. Several girls are shown a black and white photo of a baby boy's bare buttocks. We see what appear to be photocopies of pill-shaped-creatures' bare buttocks after seeing one of the creatures sitting on top of a copy machine with his overalls around his ankles. A man's boxer shorts are visible after his pants are accidentally pulled off, and he walks around nonchalantly in his boxer shorts. All played for laughs. |
violence | It appears a child has been punctured when red fluid oozes out of a nail-embedded box she is caught in. Characters are shot, burned, hit by cars, electrocuted, cut off in traffic. A man is bit by a dog and whacked with a hammer. People are shot with a freeze gun that encases them in ice. A bird is shot offscreen by a army tank (we see feathers flying). Children are put into a "box of shame" for punishment and verbally chastised. A character is shot from a cannon. A man is punched, hit in the groin, smashed against the wall and chased by a shark and threatened with guns while trying to break into a home. |
profanity | 3 scatological terms (not including), 1 mild anatomical term and exclamations (shoot, gah.) Name-calling (lame, suckers, idiot, monkey, saying that a boy looks like an ugly little girl, happy meal, duck and insane.) A man tells a woman she has a face "como un burro" which means "Like a Donkey"(the uncomprehending woman assumes it is a compliment). |
alcohol | A giant can of beer, labeled "The Big Beer," is seen as a television report identifies it as a "notable landmark." |
frightening | A lot of action sequences involving high-tech weapons that blast things to smithereens, as well as some scenes that imply injury -- although no one is ever killed or seriously injured. Edith wanders into an Iron Maiden trap, which slams closed with her in it, the others seem panicked, and we see what appears to be blood pouring out of the bottom of the iron maiden, it is revealed that Edith is fine and the 'blood' was fruit juice. There is a chase scene near the end of the film. Which involves Gru chasing Vector for kidnapping the girls. This may be intense because the girls lives are endangered. Orphanages are portrayed in a very negative light. The orphans were put in a "box of shame" at their orphanage. The roller Coster ride might be scary to some. The scene were the shark try's to break though the tank in order to get Gru and the minions could be scary to kids or people who have a fear of sharks.
