Lu and Feng are a devoted couple forced to separate when Lu is arrested and sent to a labor camp as a political prisoner during the Cultural Revolution. He finally returns home only to find that his beloved wife no longer remembers him.
nudity | Zero sexuality or nudity. A woman speaks of a man "violating" her, but the only specifics described are that she was beaten with a ladle. |
violence | A man is forcibly arrested. A woman struggles against people restraining her and falls sharply to the ground. When she gets up, blood is running down one side of her face. |
profanity | No profanity. |
alcohol | No use of alcohol, drugs, or smoking is depicted. |
frightening | Parental guidance is recommended for younger children as the subject matter revolves around a forlorn woman who waits for many years for her husband's return. The film itself has a heavy undertone overall. The "thematic material" includes family loyalties and betrayals amid communist oppression and governmental threats, as well as the (obvious) emotional gravity of a woman who does not remember her husband. Official MPAA Rating: Rated PG-13 for some thematic material |
