Kenai (the bear) has his leg snared in a rope trap and he's yanked up into the air via a tree branch. He bounces up and down, however, bashing his head onto a rock, the tree and the ground again. Koda shows up to rescue him, but instead ends up repeatedly hitting him with a branch. Koda eventually releases the rope, causing Kenai to smash into the ground. The tree branch then crashes down and hits Kenai on the ground (all played for laughs).
The scenes with the bear can be quite violent. The scene where Kenai shoves his spear into the bear's chest killing it can be emotional and shocking. This is not shown, but Kenai points the spear towards the bear, and the audience hears a loud bear roar. |

Kenai gets attacked by a bear. The image of the bear can be quite scary to younger viewers, and the entire scene is very intense to all viewers, as the bear is practically on top of Kenai, trying to kill him. Kenai climbs up onto a bolder, which is pushed repeatedly, until Kenai jumps off of it and grabs his spear.
When Kenai gets turned into a bear he is lifted up into the sky, with spiritual animals running around him, while quite intense music plays. He is then magically turned into a bear, and it is really hard to describe it.
There are lots of fighting scenes with the bear.
The moment during Koda's story at the river where Kenai realizes is about he and his brothers' battle with the bear, thus the fact that he himself then killed Koda's mother leads to an extremely fast and intense montage of images as he reviews past events with a horror-stricken new perspective.
When Koda finds Kenai after he hears Koda's story, Kenai tells the cub in his own story that he had killed his mom. I think it counts as an intense scene in some cases, cause it can be hard to watch. Especially if you are attached to the characters. Also, the song that plays syncs with it perfectly. I think Disney did a good job with making this scene a touching and sad one.
Suggested MPAA rating: PG for some perilous action and thematic elements. |
