Brazil is a Terry Gilliam dystopic black comedy film that reflects the melancholy, dreamlike quality of a famous Brazilian song that’s been translated into English. The film parodies the mostly dysfunctional bureaucratic world we live in and takes us to a post-apocalyptic world in the future yet with our present day attitudes in mind.

Movie Parental Guide

nudity 4/10 Several innuendoes A man picks up then puts down a plastic breast at a plastic surgery center Woman's breast can be seen through clothes and part of her butt seen. It is implied she goes to bed with another man, but they're interrupted later. One mention of Necrophilia.
violence 6/10 Several scenes contain torture. Off screen execution. A man wearing a mask is shot in the head, and blood hits the camera lens. During a bombing scene in a restaurant there are many injured and bleeding people lying around crying for help. Most of the violence happens in the last 5-10 minutes of the movie.
profanity 4/10 2 F-words, frequent use of shit and bloody. The second F-word is hard to hear, and easy to miss.
alcohol 3/10 People drink champagne and/or wine for dinner and at a party. Jill smokes a few times as do some miscellaneous characters. Tuttle puffs a cigar once. No illegal drugs.
frightening 7/10 Scenes of torture some may find disturbing. A gun battle takes place. A murder by suffocation takes place. The whole dystopian look of the film is frightening to some. In an infamous ending sequence, the main character is bound in a torture chamber, and his torturer is revealed to be a friend of his. The friend wears a disturbing mask that resembles that of a smiling Oriental baby, and advances on the main character with a long, thin tool. Very creepy and upsetting.
