nudity | Brief sexual conversation between Tre and his father Two people make out |
violence | For being R-rated, the violence in this film is rather infrequent. The most graphic of the scenes is when a young man is killed by a shotgun in a drive-by shooting. We see a very large, bloody wound afterwards for an ample amount of time. A few young men are shot with machine guns in a drive-by. We see some blood on one of the young men as he is killed point blank (off screen) while begging for his life. The killing is shown off screen, as we only see one character's face, shooting the gun to end his life. We see a slightly bloody dead body. Guns are pulled in a few scenes and used to threaten people. Shots are sometimes heard being fired in the distance. |
profanity | Fuck and its derivatives (motherfucker, fucking etc.) are used 80 times to fit in with the times and actions of the people around L.A. Nigger is used frequently as is shit and many other profanities. |
alcohol | People are always drinking on porches or just anywhere in the movie. Also a reference to crack and a crack pipe is visible early on in the movie. Some tobacco smoking. Drinking is the most frequent act seen throughout the movie. |
frightening | There is an intense scene where a cop holds a gun to a man's throat We see a group of friends mourning their pal's death. That scene can upset some viewers. There is a scene depicting a family completely falling apart at the sight of their dead son/brother/father's bloody dead body. Very realistic, intense, disturbing and above all extremely upsetting |
