In view of characters that initially showed up in Oscar/Pulitzer-champ Jules Feiffer's Village Voice funny cartoon going back to 1957, Jules composed the screenplay to "Bernard and Huey" in 1986. It took chief Dan Mirvish (Slamdance fellow benefactor) four years to find the content and work with Feiffer - presently 88 and still greatly dynamic as a realistic writer and dramatist - to revive the venture. Cast incorporates Oscar-victor Jim Rash, Richard Kind, Nancy Travis, Sasha Alexander, Bellamy Young and Mae Whitman, among others. Shot on Super16 film and Alexa. The film begins with post-university Huey (a crafty women man) and Bernard (his nebbishy closest companion). We streak forward 25 years and now Bernard is an effective New York single guy, and Huey touches base on his doorstep gazing old and washed upward. As the two reconnect, Bernard begins an association with Huey's irritated little girl Zelda, a trying visual artist.
