nudity | 6/10 One scene shows Barry Lyndon kissing two topless women; the sides of their breasts and nipples are exposed. Barry's wife is seen bathing (partially dressed); her torso is mostly exposed, including parts of her breasts, and in one shot her pubic region is seen through the water. Very blurry and brief. Two men are seen standing naked in a lake, holding hands and professing their love for one another; this is shown from a distance, and the water covers them up to the waist. Lots of cleavage, including one scene where Barry reaches in between a woman's breasts to retrieve a necklace. Barry kisses a man in the mouth right before the man dies. This is non-sexual however, and is simply just a cultural/time difference. |
violence | 5/10 Violence is sparse and not graphic: There are some battle scenes where men are shot and wounded/killed. Several non-graphic duels take place. A man viciously beats his stepson out of anger. Two scenes show a man caning his stepson as punishment. A young boy is thrown from the back of a horse. He dies two days later. |
profanity | 3/10 The words "hell" and "damn" are said a few times. |
alcohol | 3/10 Several scenes include characters drinking alcohol. Barry smokes. |
frightening | 7/10 The segment where Barry's son dies is quite intense/depressing. The scene where Barry violently beats his stepson is rather intense. TOTAL: 25/50. Suggested MPAA rating: PG-13 for war violence and brief nudity. |
