nudity | A couple-O'Brien's mother and her (newest) boyfriend are carousing in a bathtub while drunk. Both are nude but no nudity is shown. A very brief view of O'Brien's rear end as he gets up after lying nude under covers with his girlfriend. A young prisoner is raped by an older prisoner. This occurs mostly off-screen but we hear his muffled screams. Another prisoner is described as being incarcerated for raping a 14 year old girl over a two-day period. O'Brien's girlfriend is raped. More intense than graphic. Two scenes take place in a shower room, and both have male nudity. The nudity is a shot from behind, not frontal. |
violence | 10/10 O'Brien does a "smash & grab" of a woman's purse in her car when it stops at a traffic light, then assaults a man who chased him into an alley, leaving a bloody wound on the man's forehead. Both of these crimes are to obtain money for a "rod" (firearm). A shootout erupts in a street, leaving several characters dead and another shootout, drive-by style, occurs later. O'Brien runs over a young boy during a car chase (Not graphic, but upsetting) O'Brien is seen with a severely cut and scarred face after the accident. This condition remains for some time. A young prisoner is raped (mostly off-screen) and then thrown off a ledge, killing him. Several fights and scuffles over the course of the film, often with bloody results. There are also many intense scenes in which prisoners threaten each other. After O'Brien and a fellow prisoner escape, the latter is caught in barbed wire in a nearby forest and caught by two guards, one of whom beats the young man as the young man swears at him. O'Brien beats two other prisoners with a pillow case full of Coke cans. They are seen with bloody faces afterwards. A man is killed in a drive-by shooting. We see his bloody corpse. O'Brien's girlfriend is raped and beaten at gunpoint. The act is brief and not very graphic, but disturbing. The police arrive and one of the assailants is shot to death. She is seen with a severely bruised face afterwards. A prisoner rigs up a boombox with a homemade explosive, which detonates in the face of another prisoner. He falls on the ground with blood pouring from his face. O'Brien and Paco have a long, brutal fight at the end of the film. The fight lasts for at least ten minutes and the two make use of many makeshift weapons, most prominently a crude knife made with a nail. The two are seen bloody and beaten afterwards as a result. |
profanity | 10/10 Constant profanity, the F-word is used 80-90 times, the term "cunt" is used twice, many racial slurs towards different nationalities ("chink", "kike", "mic", "spic" and "wop"). |
alcohol | 6/10 The smoking of cigarettes is constant, and done by nearly all the the prisoners. As said earlier, O'Brien's mother and boyfriend are drinking in a bathtub. Early in the film a suitcase full of miscellaneous stolen prescription drugs are shown that Paco's gang plans to sell as illegal street drugs.. References to, and the use of marijuana is also in some scenes, e.g. an inmate offers "grass" for $10.00. |
frightening | 10/10 The whole movie is one big showdown set inside a prison between two rivals one of whom is intent on killing the other. It's pretty frightening from beginning to end. TOTAL EXPLICIT CONTENT ESTIMATION: 45/50 |
