Michael Caine is Jack Carter, a small-time hood working in London. When word reaches him of his brothers death, he travels to Newcastle to attend the funeral. Refusing to accept the police report of suicide, Carter seeks out his brother’s friends and acquaintances to learn who murdered his sibling and why.
nudity | There are several scenes of bare breasted women. A man talks seductively to a woman on the phone, who then removes her bra and caresses her breasts while he speaks to her. During this scene, there are several shots of the woman topless showing one of both breasts. A man and woman are talking and sexual innuendos are said. In the next scene they are lying in bed the next morning, sex is implied but no nudity shown. They are then shown kissing and starting to have sex under the covers but are interrupted. A naked man picks up a shotgun, stands up, and points it (the shotgun) at the men. He follows them down the stairs and out of the house standing on the front stoop totally naked. His naked legs are shown and he is shown from the waste up. During one scene, a woman is driving a car and the man is looking at her legs and breasts in her low-cut top. During this scene there are short cutaways ("flash-forwards"?) of scenes of the two of them having sex. during these cuts there are quick closeup shots where a breast can be seen or further back shots where the two of them are seen. In the end they are shown lying in bed. A couple is lying in bed talking, he moves the covers to the side exposing her breasts. There are several scenes which show videos and photos of pornography. In one we see from considerable distance a shot of penis in woman's mouth. Quite explicit, but then again it is seen from far away. (In blu-ray version the explicit image (black & white) is completely clear, however a man's hand is covering the testicles but you can see clearly the man's penis in the woman's mouth) A woman walks, fully naked, to run a bath. We see her bum and breasts. A character has sex with a few characters. Nothing too explicit but, again, breasts are seen. A woman, held at gunpoint, is forced to take her clothes off. Breasts are shown. A few seconds later she is shown lying on the ground topless and then is picked up by a man - breasts are visable. |
violence | Some characters are slapped in face. Two women fight in a bar. Not too violent. A drunk teenager is kicked into a pond. A man is stabbed. Blood is shown. It is implied that he dies. A man is shot. No blood. A person is repeatedly punched in the face, then tossed off a car park and lands on a car. His face is bloody. A woman is held down and injected with a drug. A character kills a man by hitting him over the head with a double barreled shotgun. Off screen. A man is shot in the head by a sniper Several times, men are threatened at gun point. A topless dead woman is found in a pond with closeups of her face. She is shown being taken away. |
profanity | There is one use of 'fuck', during the brawl at the bar. There are several uses of "shit", "bastard", "bitch", "dick", "whore" and "arsehole" throughout. |
alcohol | Many of the characters smoke frequently - including while lying in bed. Alcohol frequently consumed throughout the film. Several scenes are shot in bars and a few others are parties at peoples home, in all of these drinking is occurring. The main character takes drugs at the start of the film. A brief scene where cannabis is found in foil in a house by the police - other drug paraphernalia is also found. A woman is injected with unknown drug and is shown basically comatose within seconds. Later her dead body is found in water. |
frightening | The entire film has a dark atmosphere with nasty and violent characters. the theme of pornography involving one of the main character's relatives may distress some |
