A modern day retelling of the classic story The Frog Prince. The Princess and the Frog finds the lives of arrogant, carefree Prince Naveen and hardworking waitress Tiana crossing paths. Prince Naveen is transformed into a frog by a conniving voodoo magician and Tiana, following suit, upon kissing the amphibian royalty. With the help of a trumpet-playing alligator, a Cajun firefly, and an old blind lady who lives in a boat in a tree, Naveen and Tiana must race to break the spell and fulfill their dreams.
nudity | Various kissing scenes. One character is intent on "catching a man." At a party, Charlotte says, "I'm sweatin' like a sinner in church!" and stuffs tissues into her armpits and cleavage. |
violence | Brief moments of slapstick cartoon violence. A man who can do evil voodoo magic explains that he will "dispose of" the Big Daddy character, while holding a voodoo doll that looks like Big Daddy and threatening it with a needle. It is understood that this is probably exactly how he intends to dispose of him. He then shows how the souls of "wayward" people in the city will be fed to demons. (See "Intense Scenes" below.) |
profanity | None. |
alcohol | Alcoholic beverages can be seen in the background at locations such as the riverboat and restaurants. Tiana samples a glass of wine in a musical fantasy number. At a costume party, a character dressed in an octopus costume has several glasses of wine in his "arms," and a cartoonish "drunk" look on his face. He sees something strange occur in front of him that he assumes must be a drunken hallucination, and he dumps out all the wine. (A momentary sight gag played for laughs.) In the "swamp gumbo" scene, a character asks for (but doesn't receive or drink) "a pre-dinner cocktail." |
frightening | Some younger children may be frightened by the appearance of Dr. Facilier (Shadow Man) and his 'Friends from the Other Side' - a group of Evil Spirits from Hell. Talisman requires the blood of the prince for the evil antagonists to maintain their power. The evil Dr. Facilier magically shows the demons what will happen to New Orleans if his plan succeeds: As he says "I will have this city in the palm of my hand", the city really is in his hand and we see it from the viewpoint of the inhabitants walking around, with his evil eyes leering down at them. Then their souls (looking like ghosts) come out of them, and are blown over to the demons, who breathe them in (devouring them). The demons then smile, and Dr. Facilier starts laughing. Some will be upset with Ray's death. In the end Dr. Facilier is dragged by demons into what appears to be Hell. A gravestone then appears with an image of his face carved into it. SUGESSTED MPAA rating: PG for frightening imagery and themes. |
