A claim jumper and a pioneer woman team up to escort three insane women from Nebraska to Iowa.
nudity | 5/10 There is female nudity on at least two occasions. Some bare breasts and butts as well. A couple laying together and a sex reference, Sexual Intercourse but rawness is not shown. On two separate occasions, more sexual intercourse, like before. On one of these two occasions, sexual encounter between the two aforementioned characters. Forced sexual act, are quite disturbing. Bare Breasts. Some Sexual talks at various moments in the film. |
violence | 7/10 Not a lot of violence but disturbing scenes throughout the movie. A man is hit in the face with a pistol: his face is bloody. A man is sitting on a horse with a rope around his neck: he seems to be in pain. Three women are insane and sometimes scream and fight one another. One of them tries to assault and bite other people. Their behaviour is unpredictable and at times wild. Madness is a strong presence during the entire movie. A woman throws a baby in a toilet bowl. A woman loses her babies to diphtheria and throws one of them in the hay as if it were a doll. Two women get into a fight and one kicks the other in the face twice: no blood is shown but this is quite brutal. Two men fight and one tries to strangle the other. A man is shot in the head with bloody results. In a flashback sequence, a woman is seen sewing: at some point she puts the needle into her arm, then into her chest, her breasts and cuts herself with it. Blood is seen dripping from the self-inflicted wounds. A man threatens some people with a gun only to be threatened by a rifle in return. A man sets a house on fire. A man is shot graphically in the foot: some blood shown. A burning man is seen falling from a window and crashing on the floor. This is seen from a fairly long distance. Some threats throughout the movie (guns are aimed at people ...) A woman hangs herself: the act itself is not shown but we see her body hanging from a tree. |
profanity | 5/10 Not a lot of swearing on the whole but several uses of the expressions 'son of a bitch'( used about 10 times) and 'goddamn' throughout the movie. The words 'shit' and 'bastards' can also be heard. Most of the profanity comes from George Briggs. |
alcohol | 5/10 Some people are seen drinking on a few occasions. Briggs mentions a whisky jar once and is seen drunk at the end of the movie. In one of the very last scenes he drinks alcohol from a bottle he keeps on his horse. Whisky is also offered to him in a hotel but he declines the offer. No smoking at all. |
frightening | 9/10 The movie has a dark and sad atmosphere overall. The subject matter is quite disturbing( madness) and the scenes in which the insane woman throws her baby in a toilet bowl is really schocking although it is over fast. Also, the self-inflicted wounds with the needle and the shot to the head of the man who wanted to strangle Briggs are graphic and somehow hard to watch. The film is not suitable for anyone under 10: the previously mentioned scenes may be too hard to handle at this age. 31/50 |
