A woman tries to exonerate her brother, who was convicted of murder, by proving that the crime was committed by a supernatural phenomenon.
The twenty-one year-old Timothy "Tim" Allen Russell is discharged from a mental institution by his psychiatric Dr. Shawn Graham completely healed from a childhood trauma. His sister Kaylie welcomes him in the parking area and brings him home. Then she tells that they need to destroy an ancient mirror that she has just bought in an auction. The reluctant Tim follows his sister and has fragmented recollections from his childhood, when his mother Marie buys a mirror for the home office of his father Alan. Kaylie and Tim see a woman with their father in his office and the behaviors of Alan and Marie change, ending in a family tragedy. Kaylie blames the mirror and now she wants to destroy it with Tim. Will they succeed?
violence | 7/10 Several bloody scenes. A woman's scar turns into a bloody, gaping wound. In one scene, a woman shows photographs of grisly deaths and crime scenes. The movie is about a mirror that makes you see what it wants you to see. It makes people do something bad, thinking they're doing something else, for example: A woman accidentally biting into a lightbulb, thinking it was an apple (we see blood coming from her mouth). We see her pull bloody glass shards from her mouth A young woman kills her boyfriend by stabbing him in the neck with a shard of glass, thinking that the mirror was tricking her. A young woman is impaled through the neck, killing her. Blood pours out of her mouth. An image of a pile of bloody teeth is seen beside a pair of pliers. A woman bites and chews a plate, breaking her teeth. Bloody. The woman is shown later with a mouthful of broken, bloodied teeth. A man shoots a woman several times, we see the impact of the bullets on her body. A dog bites a woman. A woman attempts to choke her young children in several different scenes. A woman is chained to a wall, where she is kept for an indefinite amount of time; in the passing time she has become disfigured and behaves in an animal-like manner. A man attempts to pull off a band-aid with a staple remover, severing his fingernail. |
profanity | 4/10 About 2/3 uses of fuck. Name calling (crazy, stupid, sick, cow, whale and cheater.) |
alcohol | 1/10 A woman drinks wine. |
frightening | 6/10 Not for the faint-hearted. Some demon-ghouls with glowing eyes (as seen on DVD/Blu-Ray cover) appear several times. Some Bloody scenes. Scenes with child abuse. The ending is quite disturbing. The scene with the ghost under the white sheet is one of the creepiest parts. 15: strong threat, psychological horror, infrequent grisly images. |
