Set in a future Earth (2035 A.D.) where robots are common assistants and workers for their human owners, this is the story of "robotophobic" Chicago Police Detective Del Spooner's investigation into the murder of Dr. Alfred Lanning, who works at U.S. Robotics, in which a robot, Sonny , appears to be implicated, even though that would mean the robot had violated the Three Laws of Robotics, which is apparently impossible. It seems impossible because.. if robots can break those laws, there's nothing to stop them from taking over the world, as humans have grown to become completely dependent upon their robots. Or maybe... they already have? Aiding Spooner in his investigation is a psychologist, Dr. Susan Calvin, who specializes in the psyches of robots.
nudity | 3/10 Very slight sexual references. Nothing to worry about. A woman touches scars on a man's shoulder and chest (it's more of an exam than a sexual act). A man talks about a woman being "agreeable," and a man tries to flirt with a woman. A man showers in the nude ---- Will Smith - in one scene revealing part of his bare buttock in profile. A woman showers and we see her form through a fog-covered glass shower door. A man lies in bed in his underwear in a couple of scenes revealing bare chest and legs. |
violence | Violent action scenes involving robots throughout. Many robots are shot at, blown apart, grind up, etc. Del is sometimes bloodied (his head and arm). There's a scene where robots kill people (cops, mainly). A man is found dead with strangling marks on his neck. A man is found dead, lying in a lobby, with a trickle of blood going down his face. No sign of the actual crime or the shot's impact or anything. A young girl drowns in a disturbing scene. The last one is presumed. A robot kicks a young man and pins him down. Should probably be PG, not PG-13. |
profanity | 5/10 16 x hell,13 x shit( 2 paired with bull) (1 whispered), 8 x ass(2 paired with hole)(1 paired with fine), 2 x god damn, 2 x damn,1 x SOB,1 x piss. |
alcohol | 1/10 People are shown drinking alcohol. |
frightening | 5/10 We see brief glimpses (in a nightmare) of two submerged cars (underwater), with one containing a panicked-looking girl. A robot then punches through the glass and grabs someone else. And that, leaves someone else to drown. Some robots may frighten young children. There are some jump scenes. Contains nearly moderate action violence and language. |
