While traveling to California for the dispute of the final race of the Piston Cup against The King and Chick Hicks, the famous Lightning McQueen accidentally damages the road of the small town Radiator Springs and is sentenced to repair it. Lightning McQueen has to work hard and finds friendship and love in the simple locals, changing its values during his stay in the small town and becoming a true winner.
nudity | 1/10 Several cars make suggestive references to kissing and dating and in one instance a female car calls her husband a "sexy" hot rod. |
violence | 2/10 The opening race features a huge, multicar crash (the kind you've likely seen if you've ever watched a NASCAR race). Some of the cars are severely damaged, but the "camera" doesn't linger on them. Potentially the most disturbing scene for younger viewers comes in the final race when one of the three contestants suffers a violent, career-ending crash that leaves him badly beaten up. In a dream, Lightning imagines himself as a jet fighter firing rockets at advancing War of the Worlds-like alien machines, which explode when hit by his weaponry. Lightning makes a "grand" entrance into Radiator Springs trying to outrun the Sheriff. An accident leaves him entangled in barbed-wire fencing and towing a statue of the town's founder. Lightning McQueen races off a cliff into a cactus patch. Slightly intense, but meant to be comical. |
profanity | 2/10 1 sexual reference, 5 mild anatomical terms (4 veiled by car references), 2 mild obscenities. Name-calling (idiot, hippie, crazy, moron.) "Hillbilly Hell" is uttered a couple of times. |
alcohol | 1/10 There are comments made about a VW minibus having done drugs in its youth, which apparently caused some brain damage. One vehicle makes a remark about annother being "lit" which could mean drunk |
frightening | 2/10 Both the first and last big racing competitions are pretty intense, mainly for the crashing racecars. The scene where Mater and Lightning are chased by "Frank", a menacing harvester machine, is mildly frightening and could scare young kids. Nothing more than a 5-6 year old can handle. |
